Leiternweide Oberwil suspension bridge

The thrill of hanging 111 metres above the ravine

The walk alone to the 111-metre-long suspension bridge in the picturesque area is beautiful. Once you arrive at the suspension bridge, the path across will give you butterflies to an extent and the Morgetebach weaves down some 111 metres deeper in the ravine. In addition, the path leads the newly repaired ladder path down to the ruins of Weissenburg Bad.

The initiators actually only wanted to improve the field from the other side of the ravine, which seemed more appropriate than a suspension bridge. The project was solidified and along with the suspension bridge, the old path into Weissenburg Bad over the ladders, which had been impassable for a long time, was supposed to be repaired. A partnership set up specifically for that purpose took over responsibility for this project and led to the addition of a tourist attraction in October 2013 in the small, pretty village of Oberwil.

The suspension bridge is 111 metres long and at its deepest spot, it goes 111 metres down into the ravine. It runs from Morgetenstrasse directly to the Leiternweide. Take a rest on the comfortable benches and enjoy being in contact with nature. The descent into the woods over the steps (the ladders were replaced with steps in the interests of safety) only hints at the thrill that children had when they took this way to school, way back when. Farmers also used to bring the commodities for the then-Grand Hotel on this path into Weissenburg Bad. If you look up every now and then, you can see the proud suspension bridge enthroned. When you get to the bottom, you pass a smaller suspension bridge again, before the path leads you along the river Buschebach to the ruins of the Weissenburg Bad.

This walk can be started from Oberwil or from Weissenburg. The walk is equally suitable as a circular route.
