The sled dog race with international participation has become an integral part of Lenk. Expectant dogs, excited owners and enthusiastic spectators meet every year in February for this spectacular event.

The international sled dog race is framed by a "village" in the finish area. There will be stalls selling all kinds of accessories and useful items for dog sports and leisure. Delicacies for the big or small appetite and warm drinks will also be on offer. The sled dog is one of the oldest working dogs in the world. Gold miners from Alaska began using their dogs in competitions as early as the beginning of the 20th century. Even back then, it was a special kind of winter fun. The irrepressible howling and barking of the dogs before the start epitomises motivation, power and dynamism in their strongest form. Sled dogs love to run as a team and the sled dog handler, the so-called musher, can only hold them back at the start with difficulty. On command, he releases the brakes and the team races past the many spectators into the white winter landscape.
