Take the cable car from Barzettes to Violettes then the funitel to Plaine Morte. The route starts at the arrival of the Violettes-Plaine Morte funitel. You begin this loop with a slight descent leading you toward the glacier located below the summit of the Plaine Morte. Arrived at the foot of the glacier, you follow it for a few hundred meters. Admire this lunar and magical landscape and occasionally observe sled dogs during hikes with clients or cross-country ski amateurs practicing their sport by making a loop on the glacier. The ascent to the arrival of the Violettes-Plaine Morte funitel is a bit steeper.

  • Approach

    To reach Crans-Montana by car, take the A9 motorway (Rhône motorway) exit called "Sierre West." At the motorway exit, turn left and follow the signs for "Sierre." At the roundabout, turn right. Continue for 500 meters then at the entrance of Sierre, turn left towards "Crans-Montana." The journey time is about 20 minutes. Once you arrive in Crans-Montana, follow the signs to reach the parking lot for the Violettes ski lifts.

    Then take the lifts to the top of the Violettes and change to the funitel to Plaine Morte.

  • The Crans-Montana resort is accessible from Sierre train station with the SMC bus company as well as from Sion train station with the post buses.

    The free shuttles of the SMC bus company serve the entire Crans-Montana resort. The closest stop to the start of the hike is: télé Violettes

    Then take the lifts to the top of the Violettes and change to the funitel to Plaine Morte

    Crans-Montana Aminona SA supervises this activity during the opening hours of the ski area.

    The route is closed outside the operating hours of the lifts. Do not leave the marked trail under any circumstances – danger of crevasses.

    Check the weather conditions and the route opening before your departure.

  • This route is done with snowshoes. The path is groomed and marked. Wear warm clothing suitable for activities at 3,000 m.

  • Plan a stop to refresh and dine at the Plaine Morte restaurant from where you enjoy an extraordinary panoramic view of the imperial crown of the 4,000 m peaks and the Rhône Valley. You are in high mountain – plan the necessary equipment.
