When one of the glacier lakes unexpectedly drained for the first time in 2011, several monitoring and early warning systems were set up on the Plaine Morte Glacier, which also needed to be maintained throughout the summer. It turned out by coincidence that the author, being a very intensive and experienced mountaineer, was assigned to take on this task. In his book "The Plaine Morte and Its Glacier Lakes," the entire development of glacier retreat and thus the formation of lakes, their draining with the enormous consequential damage, as well as the measures taken in recent years, can be experienced up close in writing, images, and diagrams.
