The hike to the 111 metre long suspension bridge in the picturesque area is beautiful in itself. Once you reach the suspension bridge, the walk over it gives you a tingling sensation in your stomach as the Morgetenbach stream meanders through the gorge 111 metres below. The trail continues along the newly renovated ladder path down to the ruins of the Weissenburg baths.
Actually, the initiators only wanted to improve access to the pasture on the other side of the gorge. What seemed more suitable than a suspension bridge? The project was finalised and, in addition to the suspension bridge, the old path to Weissenburg Bad via the ladders, which had not been accessible for a long time, was also to be repaired. A specially founded co-operative took on this project and since October 2013, the beautiful village of Oberwil has had one more attraction. The suspension bridge is 111 metres long and at its lowest point it descends 111 metres into the gorge. It leads directly from Morgetenstrasse to Leiternweide. The cosy benches invite you to linger and enjoy nature. The descent through the forest via the steps (the ladders have been replaced by stairs and thus offer more safety) only gives an idea of the thrill that children had on this path as a way to school in the old days. The goods for the former Grand Hotel were also often transported to the Weissenburgbad by farmers along this route. If you look up from time to time, you can see the proud suspension bridge. At the bottom, you pass another smaller suspension bridge before the path continues along the Buschebach stream to the ruins of the Weissenburgbad. The hike can be started from Oberwil or Weissenburg. It is also suitable as a circular route.
