The tour starts at the very end in the remote Färmeltal above Matten near St. Stephan. When there is little snow, it is possible to drive to the end of the road; otherwise, the tour starts further down in the Färmeltal. The tour begins with a gentle ascent. Once the north-facing slope towards the ridge is climbed, the slope is consistently around 30° steep. From the ridge to the summit, it is only about 150 vertical meters. Depending on conditions, the skis are deposited before the ridge. The southwest flank before the summit is the last challenge before the 360° panorama can be enjoyed. The summit experience is one of the most beautiful in the region. To the south are the Lohner and the Wildstrubel massif, with the Wildhorn to the right. An incredible panorama all around.

The highlight of the tour is the descent back into the Färmeltal, which is done on the same route as the ascent. The slopes are pleasantly steep and make every skilled skier happy.

Rating according to the SAC difficulty scale for ski tours: ZS+

  • Approach

A road leads from Matten (St. Stephan) to the Färmeltal. The road is usually closed from the bridge over the Färmelbach in winter due to avalanche danger.

  • There is no public transportation from Matten (St. Stephan) to the Färmeltal. However, it is possible to reach the Färmeltal without a car by using Taxi 4x4.

  • There are no larger parking lots, but there are lay-bys along the road.

  • Färmeltal - Albristhorn - Färmeltal

  • Proper equipment and necessary expertise (avalanche knowledge, alpine skills) are mandatory for ski tours! If you have no experience assessing avalanche situations in open terrain, it is better to go on a ski tour with a certified mountain guide.

  • As with every ski tour, an avalanche transceiver, probe, shovel, and crampons are part of the equipment.
