At the road loop near the Gurnigel mountain hut, a footpath begins a little above the road with some steps. The magnificent view into the north face of the Gantrisch group, the Lake Thun basin, and the Bernese Alps is overwhelming. The only disturbances in this natural landscape are the concrete road and the tank platforms at the watershed. This divides the waters of the Gürbe and the Sense, two unpredictable mountain streams. Fortunately, access to the Lower Gantrisch hut has been relocated away from the frequently busy road. Passing the modern troop accommodation, the route goes through a small valley uphill to the green Gantrisch lake edged with sparse spruce trees. This lake was saved from impending silting up in 2003 by damming and diverting a new inflow.
At the Upper Gantrisch hut, you meet the wide edge path, developed by troops, which crosses the broad hollow of Gantrisch-Chummli, bounded by the walls of Gantrisch and Bürglen. A rough cart track now steeply ascends to the highest point of the Morgete pass. Behind you lie the Gürbe and Aare valleys, while ahead, beyond the pre-Alpine peaks of the Simmen and Diemtig valleys, the firn fields of the high Alps shine. A path steeply leads on the south flank of the Morgete ridge over Obrist Morgete to the hut group of Mittlist Morgete, then continues on the alpine road in a wide loop down to the huts of Undrist Morgete.
In the valley background, between the steeply rising Alpiglemären and the Widdersgrind, lies another mountain pass saddle, the Grenchegalm. While the Morgetebach stream overcomes the next steep stage in a waterfall, the well-developed track does so in broad hairpin bends. At Egg, it turns back into the valley, crosses the stream at Sagi, and leads around a wooded ridge to Mursbrunnen. Here briefly follow the road, then descend on the path to the forest and zigzag down to the bridge over the deeply incised Buuschebach. Only sparse ruins remain of the once famous Weissenburg Bad nearby, where Albrecht von Haller and Queen Wilhelmine of the Netherlands sought relaxation. High above the stream, the route continues downstream to the Weissenburg train station.
