Aside from the steep descent from the Gemmi Pass height to Leukerbad, the hike is very pleasant and easy. It is especially impressive due to the high alpine scenery, the magnificent distant view of the Valais Alps, and the unique deep view from the viewing platform on the Gemmi Pass height down to Leukerbad. A bath in one of Leukerbad's warm springs wipes away all tiredness.
Starting at Kandersteg station on the village side along the railway embankment. After 5 minutes, the asphalt path crosses to the other side of the railway. Reaching the Kander again, you continue along a beautiful promenade that runs between the shore and the forest edge. Past the scout center towards the Chäsmilch bridge and then on the sidewalk to Eggeschwand at the valley station of the Sunnbüel cable car. Here variant 1 branches off. From Eggeschwand, first on the road, then on the wide Gemmi trail through the Valais hairpin bends up to Stock and slightly uphill into the wide Spittelmatte, where the variant meets the main route again. Near the last larches, just above the Bern-Valais canton border, the path begins to ascend to reach Hotel Schwarenbach, which traces back to an accommodation house built in 1742. With a pleasant incline through the small high valley and somewhat steeper over Seestutz, you reach Daubensee. From the end of the lake, just a short ascent through the block slope to the hotel on the Gemmi Pass height. Suddenly, the magnificent ring of the great Valais giants appears in front of you: from Mischabel over Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, Matterhorn and Dent Blanche to Mont Collon. From the slightly elevated hotel, the trapezoidal, delicate steel structure protrudes about ten meters beyond the rock wall. The 20 square meter platform offers space for more than a dozen visitors. The walk onto the platform is certainly a small test of courage. Indeed: the footbridge consists of a grating through which visitors look over 250 meters down. Those who dare step onto the platform are rewarded with a unique panoramic and deep view. From here, Leukerbad about 900 meters lower can be seen. The descent over the steeply falling Gemmi wall is varied and leads via many tight hairpin bends steeply down to the much-visited spa town of Leukerbad.
