The tour starts in Matten, from where the first few meters in altitude are covered on the hiking trail or alternatively on the road. From Siteweiden, the route leads through open terrain via Gibel over a long mountain ridge to Schatthore. The mountain panorama on the Schatthore is one of the most beautiful in the Obersimmental. The Albristhore seems close enough to touch. This is where the impressive Simmental valley end with the Wildstrubel massif really comes into its own. After a well-deserved break, you take the same route back down to Matten.

  • Approach

By car on the main road to Matten im Simmental.

  • By train to Matten, St. Stephan. Timetable SBB.

Alternatively, depending on the snow situation, you can take a 4x4 cab to a higher starting point.

  • On Färmelstrasse by the Mühleweidli fireplace.

  • This snowshoe tour is not signposted and requires the appropriate expertise.

  • For snowshoe tours, the appropriate equipment and the necessary specialist knowledge (avalanche awareness, alpine skills) are mandatory! If you have no experience in assessing the avalanche situation in open terrain, it is better to go on a snowshoe tour with a trained snow sports instructor or mountain guide.

  • As with any snowshoe tour, an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel are part of the equipment.
