Cave Trail Oberwil: Discover Zwärgliloch, Schnurenloch and Mamilchloch
The Cave Trail Oberwil leads small and large explorers to three fascinating caves: the Zwärgliloch, the Schnurenloch, and the Mamilchloch. Along the way, there are rocks, ladders, a natural tunnel, and exciting insights into the history of the region.
The starting point is the Oberwil train station or the parking lot at the Cave Trail. From there, the path leads into the rocky area of Gsässgrind. The Zwärgliloch is easily accessible and offers a barbecue spot with a grill, firewood, table, and bench.
Those who have good footwear, sturdy clothing, and a headlamp or flashlight can take the adventurous loop further to the Schnurenloch and Mamilchloch. The path leads over a mountain trail, through a natural tunnel, and over ladders to the caves. The Mamilchloch is particularly impressive, as it is reached via a freestanding ladder. Inside, side caves, corridors, and atmospheric lighting create a special ambiance.
The area is also of great archaeological significance. Thousands of bones were found during excavations in the Schnurenloch, many of which could be attributed to cave bears. Additionally, the oldest known stone tools made by humans from the canton of Bern were uncovered there. These are now displayed at the Historical Museum of Bern.
The Cave Trail connects nature, adventure, and history, making it an exciting excursion destination in the Simmental.
