The Agensteinhaus is a highlight of the carpenter's art and impresses with its original architectural style. The interesting exhibitions provide an insight into the life of a family in those days.
The house was built in 1766 by the most important master carpenter in the Simmental in the 18th century, Hans Messerli. It has been largely preserved in its 18th century condition to this day. The powerfully designed house façade, decorated with rich carvings, is one of the most important examples of the highly developed carpentry art of the 18th century. Since 1987, the Agensteinhaus has housed the "Museum der alten Landschaft Niedersimmental" (Museum of the Old Landscape of Niedersimmental) and presents visitors with numerous very interesting documents on history, livestock farming and crafts in 16 rooms. Various exhibitions and events are also held here every year.
