The start is at the very back of the remote Färmeltal valley above Matten near St. Stephan. If there is little snow, you can ski to the end of the road, otherwise the tour starts further down in the Färmeltal. The tour begins with a gentle ascent. As soon as the northern slope is ascended towards the ridge, the slope is always around 30° steep. From the ridge to the summit it is only about 150 m. Depending on the conditions, the skis are deposited before the ridge. The south-west flank before the summit is the last challenge before you can enjoy the 360° panorama. The summit experience is one of the most beautiful in the region. To the south, the Lohner and the Wildstrubel massif, with the Wildhorn to the right. An incredible panorama all around.

The highlight of the tour is the descent back into the Färmeltal valley, which follows the same route as the ascent. The slopes are pleasantly steep and fun for any gifted skier.

Classification according to the SAC difficulty scale for ski tours: ZS+

  • Approach

A road leads from Matten (St. Stephan) into the Färmeltal valley. The road is usually closed from the bridge over the Färmelbach in winter due to the risk of avalanches.

  • There is no public transport from Matten (St. Stephan) to Färmeltal. However, you can get to Färmeltal without a car by 4x4 cab.

  • There are no large parking lots, but there are parking bays along the road.

  • Färmeltal - Albristhorn - Färmeltal

  • The appropriate equipment and the necessary specialist knowledge (avalanche awareness, alpine skills) are mandatory for ski tours! If you have no experience in assessing the avalanche situation in open terrain, it is better to go on a ski tour with a trained mountain guide.

  • As with any ski tour, you need an avalanche transceiver, probe, shovel and crampons.
