Influence of the Walser and Hydropower

With a pleasant incline, the hiking trail leads through a wetland area in the direction of Bruchli. Wildhorn, Spitzhorn, and Lauenenhorn offer us a wonderful view. The picturesque village of Lauenen gets smaller and smaller. Soon we reach the Chrine Pass. Right at the pass crossing, we climb left to the Brandsberg and then continue to the Wallis Wispile. The name dates back to the 13th century. Emigrated Walser "besieged" the Wispile, and there were repeatedly smaller skirmishes. But we continue hiking to Alp Burg. Our view extends over the beautiful valley end with Gsteig, the southernmost village on the northern side of the Alps. Along the impressive Burg Falls, the path leads us down to Innergsteig, past the hydropower plant to Gsteig.

Highlights

  • 150 meters of pure, dizzying hydropower at the Burg Falls
  • A moment of peace after the hike in the impressive church from the 15th century
