The hike starts at the mountain station of the Betelberg gondola lift (Leiterli). The first section of the mountain hiking trail runs along the AlpRundweg Leiterli, which offers an interesting mix of original information and experience stations. The path mostly leads flat or slightly hilly towards Steinstoss. On the first section, the path provides a magnificent view of the protected moor landscape, which has been listed since 1996 as the "Haslerberg Moor Landscape" in the federal inventory of moor landscapes of special beauty and national importance.
At the Alp Steinstoss, the finest alpine cheese is produced. From here, the path becomes narrower and offers a breathtaking view of probably the most beautiful valley end of the Alps. Afterwards, the path leads in a short, steeper ascent over the limestone formation Stübleni. On its north side, the crater-like, bizarre rock landscape "Gryden" spreads out. The extraordinary rock landscape in the Stübleni area fascinates not only geologists and biologists but also all who appreciate a unique landscape. At the highest point, there is a dreamlike panoramic view and, in clear weather, you can see from the Simmental over the Saanenland to the beautiful mountains of Fribourg. From now on, the path leads downwards to the turning point of the circular hike. At the turning point, a short detour to the shelter is worthwhile. The motto now is to pause, breathe deeply, and enjoy. The crater-like landscape, which resembles a lunar landscape, is better admired standing rather than walking. The path to the shelter winds past the depressions. Those who take this extra loop need surefootedness and a head for heights. If the path is continued, one reaches the Trütlisberg Pass, which is the gateway to the Saanenland.
Back to the turning point, the Gryden panoramic route leads along the south side back towards Steinstoss. On the last section from Steinstoss to the Betelberg gondola mountain station, you have the opportunity to complete the AlpRundweg Leiterli or make a detour to the original alpine flower path. The alpine flower path at Leiterli offers a natural diversity of plants, which is no longer often seen. Especially in July, when the alpine roses bloom and up to 70 other alpine flowers are in bloom, the alpine flower path is a feast for the eyes.
At the starting point of the hike, many different attractions of the AlpErlebnis Betelberg await young and old to be discovered. The Berghotel Leiterli with its generous sun terrace invites you to linger after the panoramic route. A fine afternoon snack platter or an alpine herb soup is a well-deserved refreshment.
