From the cable car mountain station, the wide high plateau of the Engstligenalp is crossed in a westerly direction past the Läger. Then the path begins to rise – first gently, then increasingly until it finally overcomes the barren grassy slopes on the Ammerte ridge in steep switchbacks. At the top of the pass height, a fantastic panorama awaits: Looking back you can see the mighty Lohner group and the wildly jagged Tschingellochtighore above the Engstligenalp, ahead is the upper part of the Simmental: The narrow Ammertetal stretches between the Ammertespitz and the foothills of the Wildstrubel, in between in the background rises the grass- and forest-covered flank of Oberlaubhorn. Before the descent, follow the wide ridge for a few minutes; then it goes very steeply down on crumbly shale ground. When wet or snowy this surface is very slippery and offers little hold; therefore, the hike should only be done in dry weather. From the area of the Ammerte-Schafberg, the path runs less steeply, first on grass, then on gravel and stable rock slabs. Shortly after reaching the tree line it branches off to the right, leading with a slight ascent to Ammerte and from there down to Stalde. Very close is the Barbara bridge with the roaring waterfalls of the Simme. Along the river, you reach the destination, Lenk railway station, across the wide valley floor via Rotebach and past the course and sports center (Kuspo).
