Take the cable car from Barzettes to Violettes, then the Funitel to Plaine Morte. You start by descending quite steeply 150 m on a groomed trail leading you towards the glacier located below the summit of Plaine Morte. The loop starts at the foot of the glacier. Enjoy skating or classic skiing and contemplate this lunar and magical landscape. You occasionally share this magnificent plain with sled dogs during tours with clients, snowshoe enthusiasts practicing their favorite sport, or guests seeking thrills while staying in an igloo. The ascent of about twenty minutes to the arrival of the Violettes-Plaine Morte funitel is again a bit steeper.

  • Approach

    To reach Crans-Montana by car, take the A9 highway exit (Rhone highway) named "Sierre ouest." At the highway exit, turn left and follow the signs for "Sierre." At the roundabout, turn right. Continue for 500 meters then at the entrance to Sierre, turn left towards "Crans-Montana." The journey takes about 20 minutes. Once arrived in Crans-Montana, follow the signs to reach the parking lot of the Violettes ski lifts.

    Then take the ski lifts to the top of Violettes and change to the funitel to the Plaine Morte.

  • The Crans-Montana resort is accessible from Sierre train station with the SMC bus company as well as from Sion train station with postal buses.

    The free shuttles of the SMC bus company serve the entire Crans-Montana resort. The closest stop to the start of the hike is: télécabine Violettes

    Then take the ski lifts up to the top of Violettes and change to the funitel to the Plaine Morte

  • OPENING HOURS

    Crans-Montana Aminona SA supervises this activity during the opening hours of the ski area.

    The route is closed outside the ski lift operating hours. Do not leave the marked trail under any circumstances – danger of crevasses.

    Check the weather conditions and the route opening before your departure.

  • The cross-country skiing route is groomed and marked. Wear warm clothing suitable for activities at 3,000 m.

  • Plan a stop to refresh and eat at the Plaine Morte restaurant, from where you enjoy an extraordinary panoramic view of the imperial crown of the 4,000 m peaks and the Rhone Valley. You are in high mountain – bring the necessary equipment.
