If you start from the Iffigenalp, you have a long ski tour ahead of you. The route to the Iffigsee and on to the Wildhornhütte is best done the day before. After an overnight stay in the Wildhornhütte, there is nothing better than putting on your skins early in the morning and setting off in the direction of Chilchli. After a good 300 m ascent to the Chilchli glacier, the view opens up to the Wildhorn. The ascent continues over the Tungel Glacier to the Wildhorn Glacier. The numerous Valais four-thousand-metre peaks can be admired on the ascent to the summit. The panorama of the Mont Blanc massif, the Bernese Alps and the Valais Alps is gigantic at the summit. Every skier can enjoy the descent over the two glaciers. From Chilchli to the Wildhornhütte is the most challenging section, but it is not particularly difficult for good skiers. Further on through the Iffigtal valley, the long descent is only moderately steep and offers great enjoyment.

Classification according to the SAC difficulty scale for ski tours: WS

  • Approach

  • By train to Lenk. Timetable: SBB. The 4x4 cab will take you to Iffigenalp with a special permit and pick you up again.

  • There are very few parking spaces available at Hubelmatte. It is therefore best to park in the village of Lenk and from there take a 4x4 cab to Iffigenalp.

  • Iffigenalp - Wildhornhütte SAC - Chilchli - Wildhorn

  • The appropriate equipment and the necessary specialist knowledge (avalanche awareness, alpine skills) are mandatory for ski tours! If you have no experience in assessing the avalanche situation in open terrain, it is better to go on a ski tour with a trained mountain guide.

  • As with any ski tour, you need an avalanche transceiver, probe, shovel and crampons.

  • An overnight stay in the Wildhornhütte makes this beautiful tour much easier. On the descent to Iffigsee, a detour to Iffighore is worthwhile.
