Gryden high-altitude circular trail

The Betelberg hides a fascinating place with an extraordinary landscape: the Gryden. The motto on the Gryden high-altitude circular trail is: Hike - marvel - enjoy!

The hike starts at the top station of the Betelberg gondola lift (Leiterli). The first section of the mountain hiking trail leads along the Leiterli Alpine circular trail, which offers an interesting mix of original information and adventure stations. At Alp Steinstoss, the path becomes narrower and offers a breathtaking view of what is probably the most beautiful valley end in the Alps. The trail then takes a short, steeper ascent over the Stübleni limestone formation. The crater-like, bizarre "Gryden" rock landscape spreads out on its northern side. The extraordinary rock landscape in the Stübleni area fascinates not only geologists and biologists, but anyone who enjoys a unique landscape. The terrain consists of gypsum rock: the slow dissolution by rainwater and the subsequent underground seepage form sinkholes, which give the terrain a crater-like appearance. At the highest point you have a fantastic panoramic view and on a clear day you can see the Simmental, Saanenland and Fribourg mountains. From here, the path leads downhill to the turning point of the circular hike. At the turning point, it is worth taking a short detour towards the refuge. The motto now is to pause, take a deep breath and enjoy. The crater-like landscape, which resembles a lunar landscape, is better marvelled at standing than walking. The path to the refuge winds its way past the depressions. If you tackle this additional loop, you need to be sure-footed and have a head for heights. If you continue along the path, you will reach the Trütlisberg Pass, which is the gateway to the Saanenland. Back to the turning point, the Gryden high-altitude circular trail leads back towards Steinstoss on the south side. On the last section of the trail from Steinstoss to the top station of the Betelberg gondola lift, you have the option of completing the Leiterli Alpine circular trail or taking a detour along the original Alpine flower trail.
