The starting point for this popular panoramic hike is the car park at Berghaus Sparenmoos. The hiking trail leads gently uphill across alpine meadows, which are part of the ‘Sparenmoos’ inventory of mire landscapes of national importance and special beauty - always with a view towards Hundsrügg.
In the mountain spring, when the wet meadows are bursting with orchids, there is a good chance of spotting black grouse. In the mountain summer, the many Simmental cattle show that the Nüjeberg is a cultivated alpine landscape created by mountain farmers. From Läuber to Hürli, the narrow path runs along the mountain flank. The view up to Stockhorn, Gantrisch and Ochse shows beautifully how the Simmental makes a bend. It's also worth taking a look at the ground, as the entire hike lies in an Eldorado of porcini mushrooms and chanterelles.
At Hürli, the ‘fillet’ of the panoramic trail awaits. From the last hut on the edge of the path (occasionally catered for), the panoramic view becomes richer with every step. With the Wildstrubel on the left and the Gastlosen chain on the right, the path winds its way up to the Hundsrügg. This can easily tell new stories about the panorama, flora and geology every day. On a clear day, the view opens up over the Euschelspass as far as the Jura. Mont Blanc, the Eiger and even the Matterhorn can be seen in the distance. Hundsrügg and the Matterhorn are geologically related. Both were pushed northwards by the African continental plate during the formation of the Alps. The geological ‘Préalpes’, to which the Hundsrügg belongs, are very rich in flowers. A break is recommended on the Hundsrügg with its panoramic view of 427 peaks.
The trail continues south-westwards to the Erbetlaubgrat ridge. Legend has it that the people of Simmental, Saanen and Jaun celebrated wild mountain festivals here after the plague. Today, the Erbetlaubseeli is a popular photo motif. After the descent to the Luegle crossing, the path branches off to the left and a few forest sections follow. From Schiltenegg, the path descends gently to the starting point at Berghaus Sparenmoos. On the way, you will pass several alpine huts where Bernese Alpkäse AOP cheese is produced.
