Stories about borders and ridges

„An enormous rock face rises above Abländschen, a very remote place with no trees and no green vegetation: one of my most terrible and threatening experiences!“ The above description of the Gastlosen mountain range dates back to 1814. They now no longer live up to their daunting reputation and have long been a Mecca for climbers and hikers. These limestone crags are the landmark of the small mountain village of Abländschen, which belongs to the local authority of Saanen. After descending down to the valley floor, the trail continues along the cantonal border to Jaun Pass.

Highlights

  • An early start at sunrise, with the Gastlosen gleaming in the morning light
  • Stop off at the cute Abländschen Church with a mere 30 seats and reflect on the hike so far
