The Wintertäli trail is located just below the mountain station in the valley of the same name. As a cross-country skier, you save yourself the descent and ascent from the Spittelmatte.

The actual loop in the Wintertäli itself is around 1.1 km long and has a difference in altitude of 25 m with a few short and crisp ascents/descents, suitable for ambitious cross-country skiers who want to hone their downhill and cornering technique or train conditions.

In combination with a Kandersteg regional cross-country ski pass, we offer a connection pass for the cable car for the 2023/24 winter season at an attractive CHF 80.00. In combination with a cross-country ski pass, we offer our cross-country skiers discounted prices for the return journey with the Kandersteg-Sunnbüel cable car. Available at the ticket office at the Sunnbüel valley station.

A changing room, lockers and showers are available at the mountain station.

  • Approach

By car via Spiez - Frutigen or by car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

  • South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kander Valley. For this point between Brig (38 min.) and Bern (61 min.), an hourly train service is in operation – this is an ideal meeting point for many tours.

  • Car park at the Sunnbüel cable car.

    Parking in Kandersteg

  • From the Sunnbüel mountain station via the feeder trail to the Gemmiweg, Godi & Kari children's trail and Altelsblickweg junction. From here turn right down past the Altelsblickweg towards Kandersteg into Wintertäli.

  • Please note that you are always travelling at your own risk! The cross-country skiing association does not maintain its own rescue system and does not carry out final slope checks, as is usual in alpine ski areas.

  • Hat, gloves, sunglasses: reliable equipment is particularly important on the cross-country ski trails. What is the best clothing? Ask our specialists in the numerous sports shops in the destination.

  • Whether you use the classic technique or skating: cross-country skiing is healthy and fun!
