It's like being in an alpine fantasy world. On this trail, runners follow moss-covered forest paths and take gently sweeping curves in their stride. Against the flow of the babbling mountain stream, this loop leads to the thundering Engstlige waterfall – and the 600 m / 1969 ft. high natural spectacle alone is worth the journey. Add to this a rustic, covered wooden bridge and the wild mountain landscape, and you have a true Adelboden classic among tours.

  • Public transport

    Arrival by bus in Adelboden

The bus station in the village centre connects the whole Engstlige Valley. This tranquil mountain village is only 90 minutes away from the nation's capital city, Berne.

  • Parking in Adelboden

Find the best places to park in the local area. There's nothing in your way now, so engine off and trail shoes on!

  • Always upstream. Beginning in Adelboden Oey, this trail follows the River Engstlige past rustic wooden chalets and farms. Halfway along the route, a stop at the Engstlige Waterfall is an absolute must. There is a bench close by which offers breathtaking views of this natural spectacle. With the force of nature spurring you on, continue along the trail. A well-maintained hiking trail leads you out of the forest again.

  • The more extreme the conditions, the more important your equipment. Longer mountain tours, for example, require weatherproof clothing and a small running backpack with food.

  • Must have:

    Mobile phone

    Snacks and water

    Wind- and rain-proof jacket

    Nice to have:

    Trail running shoes

    Trail running backpack

    Headlamp

  • Fancy cooling off? On this tour, a Kneipp station gives you the opportunity to dip your feet in the cold water.
